Six Sensational Super Foods

Things to eat for amazing health benefits

YOU ONLY GET out what you put in – it’s a cliché used in the advertising of food products, but it’s true in regards to your diet and training plan, too.

It’s impossible to get fit, lean and muscular by eating fatty, crappy and sugar-dense fast foods no matter how much you train. Eat the best quality, healthiest and most vitamin-rich foods with a regular and tailored fitness regime and you’re guaranteed good results.

Here are six of my favourite ‘super’ foods – fruits, vegetables, snacks and dressings that’ll have your body loaded with sustainable energy and ready to attack each day’s challenges:

Spinach:

There’s a reason why Popeye loves spinach – one cup has nearly 20 per cent of the RDI of dietary fibre, and it also aids in digestion, the maintenance of blood sugars and is high in vitamin A. The abundance of Vitamin K in spinach also helps fight cardiovascular disease and stroke, too.

Whole Eggs:

High in protein and amino acids, whole eggs are a perfect food for fitness fanatics. Studies have proven eggs are more satisfying than carbs – keeping you full for longer – and also high in lutein and zeaxanthin, two antioxidants that have been shown to ward off macular degeneration.

Kiwi Fruit:

Rich in vitamins, flavonoids and minerals, kiwi fruits taste great and are great for you, too. They’re high in dietary fibre and have been proven to prevent asthma and prevent age-related muscular degeneration too.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil:

Ditch the mass-produced salad dressings and choose extra virgin olive oil. It possesses anti-inflammatory benefits and has been shown to help prevent cancers of the breast, respiratory tract, upper digestive tract and lower digestive tract (colorectal cancers).

Quinoa:

Quinoa is a high-protein food (about five grams per ¼ cup) that is a grain replacement… and delicious too! It contains lysine – essential for muscle tissue growth and repair – and possesses almost twice as much fibre as other grains. It’s also high in riboflavin, improving energy and metabolism in brain and muscle cells, and myriad other vitamins and minerals.

Almonds:

Ditch the chocolate bars and choose these delicious and nutrient-rich snacks. Studies show almonds help regulate weight, promote brain function and help build stronger teeth and bones. Who doesn’t want to be slimmer, smarter and possess a sexier smile?
